Why do we like this?

Zongo Junction say they make music that sounds like "if the Talking Heads produced a Fela Kuti record of Sun Ra's music." That's a bold claim, but the Brooklyn nine-piece actually deliver. 

Their debut LP, No Discount, is filled with feel-good vibes, and though there's not a whole lot of melanin among the crew, their Afro-beat is definitely funky.

"Longtooth" is a particularly strong cut from the album. The groove is set immediately through guitar, percussion, and keys before the brass section storms in and takes center stage. 

Don't sleep on some homegrown Brooklyn funk; catch these guys in their element live on stage if the tour van happens to pass your way.
