Why do we like this?
It seems like with every release, Zola Jesus gets easier and easier to digest. She's come a long way from her raucous Stridulum, and ever since making her Valusia EP, I've become more and more inclined to enjoy her music. It's definitely accessible, which is not a bad thing considering it still toes the line between psychedelic and psychotic.
I think I also began to appreciate Zola Jesus more after seeing her live in San Francisco. She paced onstage barefoot, belting out one song after another with her harrowing, beautiful voice. Much like her clothing choice, which mostly resembles sheets wrapped around her face, her music is shrouded in mystery, layered in pain, fear, regret, and love.
Enjoy her latest single off her upcoming album Conatus, out October 4.
