Why do we like this?
Zola Jesus couldn't say no to David Lynch and his engineer Dean Hurley when they asked to remix "In Your Nature," off of last year's Conatus even though, according to Pitchfork, she "isn't really into remixes."
Personally, I prefer the remix. When I first heard "In Your Nature," I felt that it was lacking something -- even after the one minute mark when the percussion builds, I still thought some sort of larger sound was needed to match her aching vocals. She seemed to be holding back, but David Lynch's version injects a little more passion. He immediately starts with a rich beat that pairs well with the song's original structure.
Zola Jesus (whose real name is Nika Roza Danilova) is set to release this single digitally and on 7" via Sacred Bones on February 21. I'm excited to hear more from her this year.
