It's not often that you find a remix that tackles a song that's so sublime and manages to create something entirely different and equally ravishing. Enter Akouo, the Tasmanian producer who has remixed the likes of Childish Gambino, Banks, Flume and Safia, and has now added ZHU to his repertoire.
Akouo has given ZHU's instant classic “Paradise Awaits” a unique new set of flavors. It's tantalising and fragrant -- that devilish dessert you just can't resist.
The original track – my personal favorite on ZHU's phenomenal debut EP – is fleeting, subtle, and brimming with cheeky sexuality. Each layer finely slips in around the next.
Akouo’s remix essentially champions the opposite. Opening with sparse, delicate watery trickles, it’s a lot slower, more evocative, and as mysterious as ZHU himself. Deliberate gaps pile strength and definition onto each beat, each bass note, each synth loop. There’s a more overtly sexual groove at hand here, with a pounding rhythm and a velvety smooth, sensual tune that begs to be added to any bedroom mixtape.
