Watching a project from the launch and staying tuned throughout the process of growth can be a very interesting thing. You never really know what's going to hit. When it comes to Atlanta-bred vocalist and beatmaker Yung Skrrt, the rise caught many off guard.
Towards the end of 2016, we saw a huge rise in popularity with autotune-laden rap hits. With radio putting a focus on artists like Travis Scott, Young Thug, Lil Yachty, Future, and more, it was apparent that a new wave of southern rap was going to be taking over in the years to come.
When it comes to Skrrt, his fusion of tuned singing and somewhat experimental production has earned him a spotlight on the legendary French label Kitsune's Hot Stream with his track "A Feeling." Additionally, him and collaborator AObeats landed their track "Decimal" on MTV's Wonderland, which I'd imagine is a dream placement for many up-and-comers.
His introduction to 2017, "M.A.C." shares the thematic elements of instrumentals he worked with in the past, while highlighting an uplifting vocal melody, and hook you can't help but sing along to. As soon as it hit my stream this morning, I knew I was in for a good day.
If you dig this, head over to SoundCloud and follow Yung Skrrt.
