Yukon Blonde is a band on the verge of greatness. After their successful Fire/Water EP last fall, the Vancouver natives are set to release a highly anticipated second album, Tiger Talk, due out on April 9 in the UK.
Today, we are thrilled to debut their first single off the album, "Stairway," to be officially released February 13 on Dine Alone Records. "Stairway" is a fun, fast-paced folk rock anthem with near-perfect harmonies and penchant toward psychedelia.
For some reason, I'm always drawn to using weather metaphors to talk about music. "Stairway" is best described as sun-soaked and sizzling; you can almost imagine rays of energy streaming out of their guitars as lead vocalist Jess Innes croons "I hear you calling out" over and over.
From the warm, melodic hooks on "Stairway," you'd never guess that Yukon Blonde locked themselves away for half a year, recording Tiger Talk in a freezing studio by Okanagan Lake in British Columbia.
There's no doubt that Yukon Blonde will get the accolades they deserve for this single and their upcoming album -- they were nominated for a Polaris back in 2010 for their self-titled debut album, so I expect big things from them in 2012.
If you're in the UK, don't miss their live shows in February:
February 15 - Brixton Windmill
February 16 - The Old Queen Head
