Electropop artist YSKA (pronounced "Yis-ka") has teamed up with the chillwave producer Guy Burns to deliver "Falls," a new tune full of shimmering vocal textures and celestial fingerpicking. Think Edie Brickell meets Lana Del Ray, with a synthetic twist.
Coated in some heavy drum kicks and jerky waves of synths, it's a brilliant blend of a singer/songwriter and electronic house. The chorus hits like a shockwave, and I don't quite register it until it's already moved through me. The rhythmic sway of lower pitched melodies seem almost inseparable from the airy female vocals. What began as some light humming over a guitar quickly converged toward a melancholy climax.
