Why do we like this?
Irish duo Young Wonder has just released "Time," the second single from their upcoming EP Show Your Teeth. Consider my appetite whetted.
The track truly sparkles, and you can feel an influx of fresh influences when compared with their effervescent 2012 work, Young Wonder.
The pair tends to favor shorter, often one-word song titles that linger on minutia or expand infinitely ("Time," of course, being the latter). This attention to detail combines with vibrant sounds full of movement to render the track expansive yet so relatable. A metronomical clicking overtly remind us what this song is all about (YOLO, if you will -- I'm kidding, I think...) and the first, explosive drop is one we've seen in a lot of songs of late (um, hello Lapalux, or even Hokes!).
Rachel Koeman's tightly controlled vocals are the real star of "Time," and we are hearing more variation in her choices. They vacillate from shrill to serene so fast you have to play catch up to register the full scope of what's happening. The song additionally features Sacred Animals (also Irish) who have remixed the pair before.
Listen up. You might need some time to prepare yourself for the EP's full release, because it's going to be a stunner.
