Why do we like this?

Psych/dream-poppers Young Rapids hail from Washington DC, and they're getting set to drop their new album in March. 

There's something unique about "What R U Saying" that quickly has me mesmerized. At first listen, it feels fairly disjointed and a little chaotic. But, as the puzzle slowly pieces itself together, something really beautiful emerges out of the unconventional structure.

Out of distant voices and fuzzy white noise comes a gentle beat, lovely rhythms, and a bright melody. The vocals are really interesting -- they're captivating and strange, and they dance between haunting and absolutely glorious. Rumbling drums are understated yet powerful, while trickling synths create an eerie, slightly unsettling atmosphere. Occasional guitar chords and shuffling percussive loops playfully intertwine with the melody, all in all creating a wholly interesting track.  

Young Rapids' new album Pretty Ugly will be released on March 7 via DC imprint Chimes Records.
