Why do we like this?

Young Empires have already been featured on our website in some shape or form roughly five times, which makes it somewhat surprising that they've never enjoyed a dedicated review of an original single.

Fortunately that all changes today with the premiere of their new single "The Gates." It comes as the second track released this year, following January's "So Cruel."

Where the latter drew a straight comparison to Friendly Fires, this new one comes across as a more straight-forward alt-rock track, a contrast that highlights the band's versatility and talent. The combination is certainly worth of attention and hints at a strong future for the Toronto band.
