The Norwegian group Young Dreams have released Waves 2 You, their newest LP, and it is a phenomenal crash course in modern psychedelic rock. But the second track off the record is the real heartthrob. Sporting laid-back synths and a drum kit that pushes you up and out of your seat, "Wildwind" floats through your window in a fun summertime daze—even in the dead of winter.
With barely discernible lyrics, the track seems blissfully gelatinous. There are several times when sparkly wet vibrato picks up in the background and I melt.
"There's no place else that I belong / but with you calling my song"
In the last 15 seconds, a bassline emerges below the tie-dye web of artificial instrumentation as a nod to an oncoming solo. (I can't help but sense the Tame Impala influences...) A fuzzy keyboard bounces along with a string of "Baby's" from the vocalist. And then finally, we hit a wall and the last few words skate out on a delay into the ether.
