A twinkling piece of electronic bliss that combines crunchy chillwave beats with dreamy samples and ethereal harmonies, “Totoro” is the new downtempo offering from Aussie newcomer Yóste, premiered here on Indie Shuffle.
Yóste is the moniker of 20-year-old Brisbane-based producer Kurt Sines, who recently toured with Tora and New Navy as a member of If I Had Antlers. His debut single “Eternity” drew critical acclaim from Triple J, Tone Deaf, and Acid Stag.
Featuring spacey synths and rumbling male vocals, “Eternity” clearly showcased influences from the likes of Active Child, Bon Iver and Oliver Tank, while the lulling female vocals provided by Sines’ teenage sister Evangeline give follow-up “Totoro” an airy, otherworldly feel.
Having already honed his production skills in a band setting, Sines’ solo work looks set to go from strength to strength.
