YesYou are a little mysterious to me, as they probably are to most. I pride myself on knowing as much new Australian music as possible, but until recently I'd never heard of the Brisbane-based duo, Jono Kirkham and Gav Parry.
Australian radio station Triple J hold a lot of sway amongst the local music industry, and their support is incredibly influential in the success of an artist. YesYou were recently hailed as one of Triple J's Next Crop 2011 which only highlights bands with incredible potential. Amongst those celebrated were Oliver Tank, San Cisco, New Navy and Husky, already Indie Shuffle favorites.
Their single, "Half Of It", is a ridiculously catchy track. This is dream pop at its synth-soaked best "“ perfect for the impending Australian summer. If you love bands like Passion Pit and Miike Snow, this is definitely one for you.
Recently having formed a band for their foray into live shows, they will be supporting Neon Indian on their Australian tour in March 2012. Meanwhile, the boys are still furiously writing material for a release next year, so hopefully the wait won't be too long. Watch this space.
