If you've ever wondered what it would sound like to hear rapper Yassin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) and soul superstar Marvin Gaye duet, then your dreams are about to come true.
Following up from their little known February release, Yasiin Gaye: The Departure (featuring deconstructed samples of Gaye’s Motown classics inter-looped with Bey's raps), producer Amerigo Gazaway is back withYasiin Gaye: The Return.
Similar to the first release, The Return showcases more of Gaye's production work, allowing for a greater use of his and Bey's vocals, as well as allowing Gazaway to feature other artists, such as Chuck Berry, The Temptations, and Talib Kweli.
The album itself is a masterpiece of the modern mashup, and while hard to choose a favorite, the Chuck Berry-assisted "Ghetto Rock" is an early highlight, featuring Bey's raps from "Rock N Roll" and a sample from the film, Cadillac Records.
