There's something about the combination of x's and y's in a name. First we had The xx (and Jamie xx, of course), then xxxy, and now XXYYXX.
The precedent set is a high one, but fortunately XXYYXX doesn't disappoint. His album,
Still Sound, calls up influences reaching from The xx and xxxy, to Washed Out and even the likes of J Dilla -- the music could be described as almost anything: post-dubstep, post-R&B, chillwave, and even instrumental hip hop.
It's an album that will appeal equally to the fans of CREEP as it will to the fans of Pete Rock, with tracks fit for a beat tape or an album that's so hip the title is written entirely using triangles.
Now I have to say that I don't know much about this newcomer, except for the fact he's very young. According to
Last.fm, he labels his music as self-proclaimed fro-fi, an off-shot of the chillwave movement.
I can also tell you that he's giving away
Still Sound for a price of your choosing on
his Bandcamp. So head on over there, check him out, and get to know the next in line to the late-alphabet-named-bands throne!
