Why do we like this?
I woke up pretty early. I'm not an early riser, but today I was up before sunrise. Immediately cracking the Holy Macbook open like a faithful addict, the first thing I pressed play on was the Wires For Salu SoundCloud.
Wires For Salu is another dimension of the guy some of you may know as Devonwho. He's spent the last several years finessing his own brand of electronic funk, initially as part of the short-lived but uber influential Klipmode collective, and later as a solo artist. Dam-Funk tapped him for remixes, All-City put out some records. It was a good time.
But the Portland-bred scruffy-faced nomad has more in him than just the funk. For a little while now he has slowly been carving out his Wires For Salu project, a more chilled-out and ambient take that has him playing multiple instrument parts to make a whole. It sounds a bit more reflective, or pensive, or whatever word makes you think of sounds that could be made poignant by listening as the sun comes up.
