Why do we like this?
It's so nice to listen to someone new, with no fabricated hype or pretension orbiting around them. I mean, I'm sure all artists would like to have their reputation precede them, but in an age of unauthorized promo emails of crappy music galore, I was more than happy to have an old acquaintance reach out to put me onto Atlanta's Will, an artist I was not up on at all but am happy to be into now.
Will, though very plainly named, packs skills that rise above pedestrian. Very much in the tradition of his region, his music seems to be tailor-made for a car's speaker system. Like a more carefree T.I. or a boom-bap Future, Will packs his bars with Southern charm that give trite rap tropes new life. Make sure you make your way over to his Bandcamp for some free download goodness.
"You Gon Hemi" is a smooth, soulful tune that finds Will effortlessly flexing over something that captures the feeling of a spliffed-out Sunday afternoon in a cutty. Do they say 'cutty' in Atlanta?
