Why do we like this?

Chicago-based producer, Whethan, has been impressing me with his latest string of single releases leading up to his debut album, Fantasy. The edgy distortion of this track push me towards hearing a Gorillaz type of influence. Grandson's half rap/half talking vocals push the uniqueness of this song further into the realm of experimentation; reminiscent of Slowthai's delivery.

I said this about Whethan's last release and I'll say it again: he's headed in the right direction with his approach to electronic production. It's not contrived, it's not contingent on a catchy beat, and it spans influences. We can't tell what his next move is and that's why I'm stoked.
