Maybe this is a controversial opinion, but “Lucky” is my favorite Britney Spears song. I jam out to it way more than I ever have to “Toxic,” “Oops, I Did It Again,” or “...Baby One More Time.” I used to play this song on a loop all the time as a kid, so it goes without saying that this cover brings me nothing but joy.
Britney Spears is one of the rulers of pop, so interesting to see one of her hit songs go in a completely different direction. Weathers uniquely turns a well-known pop hit into a rock jam.
I like the angsty, punk twist the Los Angeles band throws in. The musicians are banging away on the drums, fiercely strumming guitar and confidently commanding the rich vocals. This cover is an update to an old school throwback.
They put their individual spin on it, which many may be afraid to do. But no matter how much you change up a song like this, it will always have a bit of an early 2000’s flare.
And thankfully, Weathers didn’t lose a second of that.
