I was recently introduced to the music of New Zealand act Watercolours, and I've been listening to it all morning.
The moniker of Aucklander Chelsea Jade Metcalf, Watercolours released a great EP of alternative dream pop in January and has since played at Laneway Music Festival and opened for the Lorde side-show.
Fellow Aucklander Ben Lawson worked as a sound engineer on the Watercolours EP, but he decided to try his hand at producing and released a remix of "Kyoto Train" under the moniker Jyeah.
The remix has been doing the rounds, and in eight days has already amassed almost three times the plays of the original. I can see why. Lawson strips away many of its bells and whistles and allows the airy and addictive vocals of Metcalf to stand front and center, creating a song that instantly feels more personal and cohesive.
I'm really looking forward to hearing more from both of these artists, and I hope they'll take this track's success as a sign to work together again in the future.
