From "The Hardest Part" to "Waking Up," Washed Out has set up their new album, Notes From a Quiet Life, to be reflective, enigmatic, and enthralling. "Waking Up" is a slow build, like the fall into a dream (ironically), and it doesn't play it any other way, which is for the better. The build into the synth chords and the samples is something so fantastical it just takes you into the epicenter of its dreamscape. Washed Out is a master of fantastical soft sounds with just enough kick for the heart.
