New Zealand born, Sydney based soul-artist Wallace has been one of the pleasant surprises this year has produced, with a couple of standout singles already in the bag. Having teamed up with hugely-hyped Sydney artist Sampa the Great on her most recent single "Beauty," she's enlisted the services of Sampa's producer -- the stupidly talented Godriguez -- to set the tone for her newest single "Negroni Eyes."
Using the stems of a Miles Davis instrumental "Nardis," Godriguez has laid a soulful backdrop for Wallace's smokey vocals to take over. Inspired by a Frida Kahlo quote she saw scrawled in chalk on the back of a Mexican restaurant in Wellington, the track is "an ode to vices and their ability to mask problems and not deal with them." The listener is powerless as they are drawn into the track, with Wallace's rare vocal quality once again proving mesmerising.
Hopefully after a big introductory year this year, Wallace pushes on in 2016 with more of her quality brand of soul music.
