22-year-old Brisbane artist Wafia has just released "Heartburn," a gorgeous new track from her upcoming XXIX EP.
A frequent collaborator with her Future Classic labelmates, Wafia features on the just-released Ta-ku cover of Estelle's "American Boy," and Charles Murdoch's stunning single "Frogs" (also featuring Ta-ku). And while she lends her breathy lilt perfectly to collabs, her own tracks are where her talent truly shines.
Organic-sounding instrumental layers and a shuffling rhythm create an understated, sentimental atmosphere. Slinky and smooth, the soundscape is dotted with the occasional synth flicker, backing vocal loops and other intricate decorations -- the devil truly is in the details.
"Heartburn," along with the rest of the EP, was written last year at the home of Wally De Backer aka Gotye. Production credits include Ta-ku and Thrupence, with Vancouver Sleep Clinic making an appearance as guest vocalist.
