I caught Sydney-based duo Vigilantes live at a tiny gig a couple months ago. Engaging and stylish yet so much fun, they turned a tiny crowd into a heaving dance floor -- and really, who can go wrong with a live saxophone?
New single "Elasticity" follows on from 2014's "Circle," blending a retro sentimentality with super fresh production. The track bathes is a smooth, summery atmosphere, equal parts angelic innocence and late night cheek. It's one of those songs where the little things make all the difference -- the flitting vocal harmonies, those minuscule rhythmic flips that brighten up the beat, the very 80s-inspired echoed-vocals-and-saxophone breakdown.
Reportedly composed via text message while the pair were in different cities, the result is coolly understated electro pop. A unique take on a well-overdone style, I'm looking forward to hearing more from Vigilantes.
