Why do we like this?

At the moment, the jittery, energetic sound known as "footwork" is bubbling through the grassroots and inching towards mainstream. DJ Rashad (RIP) and his voluminous TekLife crew pioneered the sound, first in their hometown of Chicago and in recent years throughout the world. 

Two of my favorite beatsmiths have collaborated (under alias) to bring a fresh take on this buoyant flavor. VATOGATO and Cakedog link for DGM.VOL.1, an EP that marries footwork with exquisite sample choices.

"Tearsawai_" lifts a slept-on Faith Evans vocal and kicks it into high gear. Rock this at your quinceañera, middle school dance, or Battlegroundz -- it's sure to go over well in either spaces.
