Just before Vanbot (aka Ester Ideskog) was set to release her second album, the follow-up to her 2011 self-titled debut, she scrapped it. “I had a breakdown and started all over again, from scratch,” the Swedish artist explains.
"Seven" is the second single to drop from her aptly titled upcoming new album, Perfect Storm.
Comparisons to fellow Scandi exports are inevitable. The pained lyrics will remind you of her Swedish compatriot Robyn and the rumbling synth lines have a touch of the MØ about them. But Vanbot’s own brand of dark, soulful pop is good enough to stand on its own.
The track starts with Ideskog’s sugary sweet vocals sparsely arranged over menacing thumps of bass, before launching into a euphoric, pop-tastic chorus. This is electro-pop done good, and merely a tantalizing hors d’oeuvre before Perfect Storm is released on May 15.
