LA-based quartet Valley Queen have this week announced they will be releasing their album this year, and in conjunction with the news have dropped single, "Chasing The Muse."
Inspired by the singer songwriters of the '60s and '70s, while entwining subtle touches of the '90s alternative scene into their music, Valley Queen are creating vibrant, entrancing tunes.
"Chasing The Muse" is fueled by traditional rock riffs and front-woman Natalie Carol's distinct vocals; a welcome starting point for new listeners. Talking with Stereogum Carol had this to say about the song's inspiration:
I was very raw, at the beginning of a separation, and started seeing a therapist that was not very helpful--just continuously asking me 'how does that make you feel' and wanting to divide my life into parts of a Venn diagram on a dry erase board. She never really went deep enough with me for real radical change to happen but that 'parts' exercise did conjure the beginning words to this song. I left that therapist soon after this song got written and sought healing elsewhere.
Mackenzie Howe from the Wild Reed's came over not too long after I had written the lyrics and wrote that lead guitar line you hear me playing throughout the song, playing through my amp in my living room. I love that she is woven into this song through that line.
Valley Queen will release their debut album later this year, but you can listen their Destroyer EP via all good streaming services.
