I spent a good long time perusing the tracks on Brick Lane Records' SoundCloud profile over the last week. The label is behind some stellar artists out of Seattle, some that I've already written about, such as Benjamin Verdoes and Iska Dhaaf.
With each of the signees, I have been drawn in by their honest, true-to-the-core songwriting -- with each release spanning a refreshing range of genres.
A sincere, beautifully crafted collection of poignant folk songs is what songwriter Austin Crane brings to the table on Valley Maker, a project which includes frequent collaborator Amy Godwin and other friends.
"Oh Lightning" was the first song I came across from the album When I Was A Child, and I was immediately drawn to the beautiful harmonies, the Southern tinge in his raw vocals, and the melancholy storytelling.
