Trap music is a little too heavy and repetitive for me these days. There are only so many hi-hat saturated drops I can handle before: a) going crazy, or b) throwing on a stank face and engaging in behavior that would only be acceptable at a frat party. In an effort to avoid either of these outcomes, trap and I have parted ways.
However, a genre called chill trap is something I can definitely get behind. Up-and-coming Typax follows the lead of artists like WhatSoNot and Cashmere Cat by turning down the turn-up and combining trap based beats with relaxed, celestial elements.
Imbued with full, spacey synths and effervescent melodies, "Cerulean" is a glitchy track that mutates, moving the listener through dynamic and complementary sounds. Its frequent changes play with your sense of expectation while creating a pleasant, sustainable listening experience.
Another cool thing about this track? It’s licensed under Creative Commons, meaning Typax has given listeners the permission to remix and alter his original art. How's that for innovation?
