Why do we like this?
Given that one of my favorite bands ever is Boards of Canada, it should come as little surprise that bands within the same genre draw my attention. Tycho just so happens to fall into that category.
That's not to be unfair to Tycho -- he has a sound that is wholly and recognizably his own. And "Spectre," off the upcoming album Awake, demonstrates exactly that.
The song begins with a familiar tone and cadence, and at first I expected to find myself underwhelmed. The 1:25 mark, though, is where I really got caught off my guard: it's a beautiful transition that puts many modern bridges to shame. Net-net, this is one of my favorite releases of the week.
