Twist's first single "Can't Wait" was written at a time when singer-songwriter Laura Hermiston felt her life was at a stalemate. But in the process of penning the track with Holy Fuck's Brian Borcherdt--the other half of the duo--she found herself growing excited about what may lay ahead for the band.
"Can't Wait" certainly sounds optimistic. The drums are upbeat, the guitar's surf pop-like melodies shimmer, and Hermiston's echoing vocals drifts passively through the verse.
But it's not until the song hits the infectious chorus, with its tidal of distorted chords and crashing cymbals, that you really get the kind of feel-good anthem that could soundtrack the summer. It's a tune made for lifting spirits, and the best part is, it'll work.
