The best dressed man in pop is back again, with several tracks previewing his new album Caer, due at the end of April. "Saturdays" sees him team up with fellow indie-pop darlings HAIM, their gorgeous harmonies lending weight to his funk style and soulful voice, and gives traction to the hope that this is a serious return to form for the Dominican-American star.
If nothing else, the infectious beats and melodies he has been known for are back. Opening with steady and scratched muted guitar strums and giving way to a lovely vocal line that mimics the rhythm it cover. "Saturdays" canters along without letting up, gentle swells and builds tugging you along with it. Just as it flirts with the lurking danger of monotony, HAIM add much needed new energy, harmonizing and leading with strength and restraint in equal measure.
"Saturdays, where we dance in the dark in the room where it all gets real," it's a song about the danger of loss and trying to distill a relationship into the joyful memories that we wish would be the norm. A promising return for Twin Shadow, Caer is out April 27th through Reprise Records.
