Perhaps it's just that I'm noticing them more, but over the past 12 months there's been a definite spike in the amount of bands who model themselves on a bygone era. From the outfits and the characters they develop to the music itself, these guys are serious -- and Melbourne's Total Giovanni is a great example of this trend executed to perfection.
Having already received rave reviews for their all-encompassing, engaging live show, the five-piece just debuted their first single, titled "Human Animal." From the tight groove to the shoulder-shuddering percussion to the urging, spoken-word vocals, Total Giovanni has taken the term "catchy" to a whole new level.
Expect to hear a lot more over the coming months from Spike Punch, Vincenzo Del Negro, Shidi Amin (aka Sideboard Ford), Cavallo Nero (aka Hornelle Equinox), and Shattered Guru (aka Jingle Bello).
