I was pretty jazzed about stumbling upon these guys for the first time after I caught them at Hotel Cafe in LA, then I saw them doing their thing on the streets of their hometown in Austin at SXSW, and now Toma have a debut album out that I think is chock-full of reasons why they might not be one of Texas's best kept secrets for much longer.
They collaborated on the album (titled Aroma) with James Petralli of White Denim, and while his influence is certainly noticeable, they're carving out their own distinct flavor of clean indie/psych rock. "Going Nowhere," the leadoff track and a single prior to the album's release, is the perfect example. Think something along the lines of what it might sound like if Phoenix scored Dazed and Confused - youthful energy and catchy melodies all with a warm vintage feel.
They're on tour across the U.S. this month, rolling through New Orleans, D.C., NYC, Philly, and more. Full dates on their Facebook - check 'em out near you.
