Why do we like this?
New Zealand and Australia have a special relationship. Just a three hour flight away, they're often just grouped in together as one when the world considers them -- a view that's completely wrong. New Zealanders have a lovable, almost self-deprecating way they approach some things, and this often filters through into their music industry. Christchurch native Tom Lark (who has since relocated to Sydney) is a great example of this, with his unorthodox pop music well worth a listen.
After covering his earlier single "Give You All My Lovin'" almost a year ago today, we bring you his newest release "Go Get A Job," which is (funnily enough) an ode to the feelings and thoughts which come from being unemployed. Fuzzy and drawn out, it's got an endearing hopelessness to it which is actually carried out in a somewhat sunny demeanor (confusing much?).
Australia has a sneaky habit of claiming New Zealand's successful exports as their own. But Tom Lark is pure Kiwi, in the best way possible. Keep an eye out for news of his impending debut album release (early 2014).
Note: I love Kiwis, nothing I say in this review should be taken as a slight toward them :)
