Intricate downtempo electronic music? Yes please! Fortunately Tom Ashbrook has me covered with his latest offering.
Reminiscent of Jon Hopkins with a touch of Bonobo in the mix, "Nocturne III" starts out in a nice, moody, slow-building neo-classical manner (yes, that's a lot of hyphens).
It doesn't take long to build up the tempo though, and that slow-burning journey quickly becomes an energetic almost-tribal experience that's likely to tickle your ear drums in places you didn't even know exist. That was my experience, at least.
Liverpool-based Tom Ashbrook is gearing up for a new album to be released this year. Can't say I know a whole lot more about when that's out or what'll be on it, but... based on "Nocturne III" you can consider me pretty excited.
