Sydney-based musician
Tim Fitz has been a favorite of mine for a while now, but even I was surprised when I realized he's just about to release his fourth EP in just over two years!
Aside from being stupidly prolific (I'm still catching up from his third EP), he's one of the most interesting musicians in Australia at the moment. If you keep up with my reviews, you may notice that I said that in my recent review of
Rainbow Chan, and it's pretty fitting that I mention the two in the same breath. Both first caught the eye when competing in the 2011 FBi Northern Lights Competition, which also helped launch the careers of Oliver Tank and Flume. Unlike most of the current crop of bedroom producers, Fitz and Chan use similar techniques in creating their music -- a mix of looping, electronics, musical gadgetry, and a fair amount of brilliance.
The latest Fitz EP is
Unscene, and in true Fitz form, it's intriguingly varied. While you can stream and purchase it in full
here, I'll just focus on the current single, "Happiness Is Tugging At Your Heart." It'll quickly induce grins all around with its vibrancy and color, especially given the romantic way this talent creates his music (check it out
here). His music would be classed in the pop genre, but it's so much more than that -- full of conflicting, choppy rhythms and layered sounds, all created by this musical Swiss Army Knife (I'm sure I stole that off someone).
He's also new to
Twitter, so chuck him a follow if you're so inclined.
