Why do we like this?

You may recognize Tim Darcy from Montreal post-punk outfit Ought. Taking things into his own hands, Darcy is preparing to release his first solo album, Saturday Night, through Jagjaguwar on February 17.

"Still Waking Up" sees Darcy take on the persona of a singer more suited to our grandparents' record collection - and that's a compliment.

Darcy manages to capture the charm and innocence of songs of the past, his deep voice crooning to a jangly, swaying pace. Yet the distorted guitars place the song firmly in the 21st century, resulting in a refreshingly different kind of indie rock.
