So the first thing that has to be said about Thor Rixon's "Lies" is that this is one extremely memorable song! After the initial listen some time ago, I'd wake up with it looping in my head, every damn morning -- a pretty tell-tale sign of a solid jam.
We recently covered his release "Why Don't You Love Me" but with so much groove coming through on "Lies" it was hard to resist another feature.
Funny thing is, the instrumentals are such a good time that one could very nearly miss the depth of the lyrics, but as a total sucker for a good lyric, I wasn't going to let them just slide by. Thor's honest lyrics serve as a reminder that we all go through different versions of very similar human experiences. "Lies" is a poetic, and at the same time, very open pointing-out of the harmful effects of lying to oneself and others. On second thought, with lyrics like "I'm ducking and diving /shooting from the hip / remanufacturing the truth, facts and everything," their depth becomes hard to miss.
But if you're done thinking & ready to start the weekend then I'd definitely recommend checking out the music video, because it anda bad mood are 100% mutually exclusive,
