Why do we like this?
"Life" is Thomas Tempest's title track on their album. It is calming yet enlivening at the same time and not to mention, thought-provoking. I appreciate what this song brings into the world: it has the ability to relax and/or inspire the listener.
Jazzy beats rest beneath the play of a sporadic brass sound. The melody lifts the ear towards a poignant vocal sample. What it touches on will probably be different for everyone. For me, it was the following:
"They say that when your stomach is full and you're in the warmth of sunlight, you can easily seem like a decent person. So it might just be the case that we only come up against our worse selves when we encounter hardships. That's where we need to whip out our hammers, spanners, and nails and fix what doesn't work. This journey results in seeing what we have inside."
And for the artist themself it was the following:
"Valuing things of no worth. Re-evaluating dreams. Laboring ceaselessly against the current. Seeing less, wanting more, having enough.
This is LIFE."
