Why do we like this?
Melbourne duo Dave McGann and Chris Goff go by the name Them Swoops, and have built up an incredible reputation considering they have yet to release anything. Having formed earlier this year, they've already supported the likes of The Maccabees, San Cisco, and Last Dinosaurs (with their revolving support band). A demo of their song "Work Around It" has already received lots of local airplay, and this track will appear on their debut EP Glimmers, which is due out early next year.
Recorded in Melbourne, the EP was then mixed in L.A. by Mark Needham (The Killers), and while the original single was solid, the new mix is much tighter, smoother. It's got a drifting, care-free texture to it, and combined with the groove-laden bass line, it's reminiscent of some of Phoenix's tracks.
Them Swoops are currently completing a national tour (all dates can be found at their facebook page), and are a band to keep an eye out for in the coming 12 months.
