After dominating the charts last year, it comes as no surprise The Weeknd has become a go-to for covers, especially his hit "The Hills." Everyone from Titus Andronicus frontman Patrick Stickles to Aussie duo Atlas Genius have taken a stab, and while both are great, I've been drawn to New York indie pop act Roses & Revelations' take on the song.
Talking with Idolator, band members Matt Merritt and Alyssa Coco had this to say about the cover;
"We wanted to cover “The Hills” because it’s something so different from our own original music. It’s such a cool song with a great melody, so it was really fun to reinterpret the song."
The duo has turned Abel Tesfaye's depressingly dark description of an emotionless relationship into an engaging acoustic ballad. Lead singer Coco’s alluring vocals, laced with the slightest touch of menace, soar over the light instrumentation, making this one of the stand out covers of 2016 already.
