The Weeknd’s “The Hills” had taken over the top spot on the Billboard Top 100. He ironically replaced himself, since “Cant’ Feel My Face” was number one.
The original track was a haunting affair; the Canadian pop artist had gone back to his ghostly R&B pop with the new single. His falsettos would rise over beats that would buzz and sound like it belonged to a horror soundtrack. The whole song was wrought with dark woeful imagery.
Producer RL Grime took that image and ramped it up to the next level. Echoing hand claps start off the track right before The Weeknd’s vocals are introduced. But after that, it’s a collision of dubstep-driven beats and an explosion of electronic sounds that take over.
If the original was a haunting horror flick, RL Grime’s remix is the climax when Jason would be rushing towards you to gut you up.
