Watching, or rather listening, the Undercover Dream Lovers grow as a prominent name in dream pop over the last four years, since debut in 2016, has been a magical ride. At the center of Los Angeles-based project is the clever songwriter and producer, Matt Koenig.
Earlier this year, I featured my personal favorite, "You Don't Have To Be Lonely," which blew up here, on Indie Shuffle. Koenig's creative genius has been busy in 2020, as that track was a member of debut, full-length album, It's All in Your Head. Now, he's back with "Drive Thru," one-half of a two single release; precursors of an anticipated, upcoming project.
This track, as well as the full album, were written entirely during the first month and a half of quarantine. Other leading single, "Number 1," caught massive popularity on Spotify. If this is any indication of what we can expect from the UCDL's future project then we are in good hands.
The UCDL are touring with STRFKR early next year, and I'm hoping to catch their performances in Seattle if COVID doesn't throw a wrench in that. Crossing my fingers!
