In 2016, I first heard the Undercover Dream Lovers when they released single "Good Luck." I loved it so much that I immediately threw it onto my college radio show. Fast forward three years and I love their newest single, "A Way Out," so much that I threw it onto my college radio show again. Life really comes at ya full circle. Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, Matt Koenig, specializes in taking listeners on a psychedelic, dreamlike ride.
Previously releasing "All You Need" this year, he gave off a melancholic feel with a slower tempo. The lyrics solemnly focusing on trying to make a relationship work. "A Way Out" increases the previously held energy with robust bass and funk undertones. Pair these elements with Koenig's smooth, almost seductive vocals, and you are pulled into the contagious soundscape. Right when the song started, I was instantly bobbing my head.
This track is a peek into the Undercover Dream Lover's upcoming album,It's All In Your Head, due for a release in Spring 2020. Needless to say, I'm stoked to see how Koenig can continue to expand his sound.
