Why do we like this?
Melbourne's Leigh Hannah is certainly one of the city's most interesting musical contributors. An Indie Shuffle favorite, Hannah's The Townhouses, previously an ambient, soundscape-y mesh of synths, reverb and African-inspired percussion, is evolving into a more slacker pop, song-driven project -- something Melbourne is renowned for.
"Nag Champa," which we're excited to be premiering today, is a sprawling, jangly piece of laid-back pop bliss. Oozing Sunday afternoon vibes, it features Hannah's beautifully fragile vocals front and center, as opposed to the mumblings that we've become accustomed to on previous Townhouses releases.
Doubled with an equally beautiful B-side, "The Oval," and due out on cassette as part of a forthcoming EP later in the year, this new direction for The Townhouses is certainly set to be a special one.
