Since his last full length release, Melbourne’s Jeff Lee has undergone a change of sorts with his grammatically awkward project The Townhouses.
Gone are the intricate soundscapes, reverberated beats, and delicate production, replaced by jangly guitars and saxophone, and, for the first time, Lee’s previously unheard baritone-tenor voice. These changes are somewhat superficial, however, as the songwriting brilliance and carefully pieced-together arrangements that underpin his earlier work are still present -- if anything, they're more noticeable than ever without his layered, washed out productions to hide behind.
Today we’re honored to be premiering "Easy," the third single to be taken from his upcoming LP, Ill-Fitting. Lee explains that "Easy" is “about how simple it can be to fall back into the safe patterns and routines of *luv lyfe* as you search for those moments of validation and comfort a relationship like that can give you.” The quickest song to reach fruition on Ill-Fitting, "Easy" is as honest musically as it is lyrically -- its simple instrumentation allows Lee’s beautiful soft voice to shine through.
Ill-Fitting will be released on September 23 on limited cassette + photo zine and as a free download through Lee’s own label, Healthy Tapes.
