Why do we like this?
Australia has seen a bit of a Brit-pop renaissance over the past few months, with new Sydney band The Tambourine Girls one of the finer exponents for the genre. The songwriting project of Deep Sea Arcade's Simon Relf, things began to take shape while the guitarist was living on the NSW South Coast.

While there's been a demo (the picturesque "Watching the World") floating around for around a year, the first official single "Blood and Bones" was released just over a week ago. The track was recorded with the assistance of the Preatures' Jack Moffiitt as well as fellow Deep Sea Arcade members Carlos Adura, Nick Weaver, and James Manson. The dream team was topped off with noted producer Tony Buchen lending a hand.

While Deep Sea Arcade has been one of the finest purveyors of Brit-pop over the past few years, "Blood and Bones" is much more expansive in its construction. Elements of psychedelia, folk, and rock have been fused together to create a rolling backdrop, with Relf's gripping vocals holding court.

The Tambourine Girls will be releasing their debut EP in the coming months, let's hope for more of the same.
