A couple days back, Foster the People hopped on BBC's Radio 1 to play a few songs, including this cover of The Strokes' "Machu Picchu." It's an awesome song to cover, but I'm mixed on the final outcome. Hearing Mark Foster's vocals in this manner...well, it's not his best styling. Perhaps it's just a little too mellow.
Mark was quoted as saying:
The song title sounds like a Pokémon character. It's a rock song we wanted to flip on its head. It's definitely our kind of psychedelic take on this song.
Their kind of psychedelic take? They have a psychedelic take? Apparently so, but I'm reluctant to call this "psychedelic" in any way. That said, I wasn't the on up there covering it. So I'll just let the music stand.
