It doesn't feel as if four years have passed since Sydney's The Presets released their second album Apocalypso. It's probably because it was (justifiably) played to death for at least two years after.
That said, it was high time for some new material from them, and there have been plenty of rumblings and teasers popping up over the past few months. With their next album Pacifica now confirmed to be released through Modular Records on September 14, hysteria is bound to set in -- especially after the release of their new single Youth in Trouble."
This track is ridiculous. Spanning 6:24, the tension is palpable throughout the musical marathon as it builds and builds. When the beat finally drops, it's more subtle than anticipated, but it works. The Presets' familiar eerie tones are all throughout it, which ties in with the duo's push towards a harder, darker sound.
To add to the twisted feel of the track, they've collaborated with New York based art-director Yoshi Sodeok to create a completely tripped out video (see below).
The Presets step up a gear in September when they begin an extensive National Tour before heading over to the States to continue the promotion of Pacifica. Until then, this should hold you over.
